He's a genuinely good guy, but his career seemed to go downhill quickly after the Reds moved him from the bullpen to the rotation. When he was coming in for an inning or two at a time, he was able to get the job done at least adequately, but not as a starter.

My guess is that his arm was either injured or tired after that 2003 season, and he's never come close to being effective since late 2004. Anyway, while his career might be over, I'm sure he'll be fine without baseball. He's always been known as one of the nicer people in the game.
