I was told once they got thick enough to cut off the flower at the end of the stalk and the bananas will grow long. Is that true. What Should i do?

fertilize the tree with old banana peels and fish water ( like from a pond or aquarium ) yes it stinks but you will not taste it from the bananas.
We grew them in Texas and they never got over 6" long so don't be surprised if yours do not get very large. They will get larger as the tree becomes more mature but you may have a smaller variety. Eat them anyway- they will be delicious.

So your bananas are too small huh? You need to make sure the banana is getting enough water AND notice how old the tree is. A younger tree will take some time to produce the massive 8" bananas you so long to slurp down.

They are a different variety of banana that only gets a few inches long. The ones you get in the grocery store are grown in South America.

That pretty common around here, Its a different climate then were we usually get our banana's from. Your not going to get them the same as the one you get from the store. They probably wont taste exactly the same either.

You might be growing "finger bananas" which, indeed, remain small but are prized for their sweetness. Ask around.
