I have BAM to kill them immediately, so I don*t need to know what kills them, but I want to know what will repel them. They are suddenly coming out of three of my kitchen cabinets. Does anyone know what these things like to eat.? Maybe I can put some stuff out to attract them then poison them.

The Big ones are carpenter ants, they eat wood and like sweet stuff. If they are suddenly showing up, like they are at my house, is it very wet at your place? We just had all that flooding, so they came in. We use a liquid poison called Terro. It comes in a little bottle or in pre-filled bait traps. Put it away from children and pets, it is poison afterall. I normally put it on the windowsill, by the screen and under the stove. The first day they find it, they will be lined up like wagons around a campfire, the second day there will be less of them and normally by the 4th day, gone. They fill up with it and take it back to the nest. I have seen it in the lawn and garden section at Walmart.

I think big black ants are carpenter ants. If you can find out where they enter your house, put some Borax in their entrance holes. Hopefully they will take it back to their nests, and it could kill the little ants there. Meanwhile go out and get a variety of those ant traps and put them around where they are. They will take stuff back to their nests if they go in the traps. Check your wood in the back of the cabinets for damage.

I would suggest drawing a line around your kitchen with regular blackboard chalk.

For some reason they never cross the chalk line. It is fool proof and cheap. Plus no harmful toxins in the air.

Get yourself a spray bottle and fill it with soapy water. That does the trick! (to Kill them) But to REPEL them you use vinegar ( they hate the smell) just put it in a squirt bottle and spray area. They also hate chalk...won't cross a chalk line to save their as*. Good luck, they sure are pesky little varmints...aren't they?!

Try boric acid - it's a powder that you can sprinkle around your doorways and cabinets. Check the cautions about pets and children, though.
