i just got back for the apostle islands in northern wisconsin on the border of lake superior, you can take a motorcycle or car on a ferry and spend a few days camping on the island. we stayed at madeline island, if someone goes, go to tom's burned down bar, awesome
sandy beaches, warm water atleast when we were there, reminds you of the caribean without leaving the midwest

i like southern n.c. i have kids so it is affordable, clean and not busy. you can take walks on the beach and be alone if you want.or if you want to go to myrtle beach it is a short drive, then you can come home to your quiet beach house...
