The trouble with the "free" sites starts when you want to start making money with your site. Serious affiliate programs like Commission Junction, Amazon, and Google AdSense will not even consider you if you're on a free site. So weigh the cost of domain registration and hosting, for about $9 per hear and $4 per month respectively, against the potential income of, say $100 per month (a modest estimate) that you could have been earning (assuming your site is getting at least SOME traffic). Anyway if it's a blog type thing you're looking for, Blogger is owned by Google and automatically qualifies you for the AdSense program, though with slightly lower rates than if you had a full-blown website
