First of all, Matt Damon is 35 (turning 36 in October) whereas William Shatner was also 35 when Star trek first went on the air. But here's the kicker ... the new Trek Prequel is supposed to take place during the (Starfleet) Academy days when Kirk was probably around 20 or 21 years old. Plus by the time the movie comes out in 2008, Matt Damon will be around 38. I don't see why they couldn't do like (God forbid I utter these next words) Star Wars and cast an early twenties actor. Hell, even Batman cast Christian Bale when he was only 28 or 29, so that he can do the role into his thirties while he still looks kind of young. By the time the next Trek film (after the 2008 film) comes out in either 2010 or 2011, Matt will be well past 40 and still playing a cadet. Hell, I'd rather see Hayden Christensen play Capt. Kirk ...... at least he's young.

BoosGrammy, you're right about Miami Vice. Horrible casting (especially Jamie Foxx as Tubbs).
