Recently in my city the funding for a new Animal Control facility was turned down, even though not all of the commissioners were present to vote. We are getting the chance to present the issue again in August. This new shelter would save lives as currently more than 80 animals weekly are euthanized due to lack of space, animals that I know would have made excellent pets if given the chance. On the day of voting a group of volunteers will be holding a professional demonstration in front of the courthouse and we are looking for ideas for slogans that could either be put on t-shirts or on signs. Any serious ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much in advance!

once again, thank you all so far for the answers! however, since we are also trying to convince some local politicians that apparently have no souls, can anyone come up with good slogans focusing on safety issues or taxpayer dollars as it pertains to Animal Control? I think these are the areas that will get the "non-animal" public & commissioners to change their minds on this issue, because they certainly could care less how many animals are killed. The article in today's paper even criticized Animal Control for having an adoption program for crying out loud!

Most likely the voters have a pet at home or have had a pet some time in their lives that they have fond memories of. Maybe you can try to monoplize on that and pull their heart strings. Get the statistics on how many animals are euthanized in the shelter and find out how many are put down per minute. Maybe you could have a picture of an adorable animal from the shelter and it could say"Every minute however many animals are euthanized in INSERT TOWN NAME HERE. Vote yes for a new animal shleter, his clock is already ticking." But use your own accurate statistics.
I love the Humaine Society of the United States website www.hsus.org/ There is a wealth of knowledge there. I've tried to search and see if they have any good slogans you can use. I didn't see anything right away but check it out for more information.
GOOD LUCK!

I can't think of anything at the moment, but I would make it ryme. Our shelter came up with the spay/neuter slogan
"The Big Fix 2006"
That wouldn't work for your shelter slogan, but I thought it was catchy and clever to use as an example. I'll let you know if I thing of something!

good luck you you

make sure your shelter enforces spaying and neutering in all adoption animals so the cycle is ended
I will tell you this if you already have a shelter and are mearly looking to expand - it wont make a difference to euthanasia numbers because you will still have the same number of adoptions only you will have more animals for them to pick from so you also need to think of ways to increase your adoption rate and to reduce the rate of unwanted animals (again spaying and neutering)

"speaking for those who cannot speak for themselves"

"helping those less fortunate"

"because we created this problem we need to end it"

"VOTE to help end the cycle of death"

"VOTE so our weakest memebers have a chance"

"Vote, because fluffy can't"

*** ADDITION -oooooooooo I like Reds suggestion - brilliant and the Big Fix in 2006 is good too

How about something along the lines of "Give them a chance at life, and see the life they can bring to others"... Obviously it would have to be shorter and catchier, but that's the best I can come up with in my pre-caffeine haze. Best to you and your cause.
