AVAST is the best I've found so far. Go to www.avast.com and download the free home version of antivirus.
You will need to register it and have an email address, they will send you a cd key via email for it and it's good for 14 months. You can renew every year for free.

Avast! from Prague, Czechoslovakia.
A c.d. was used to initially install it but the website says it's free and the updates have been coming in regularly - for more than six months now.
Very effective.
Thanks Avast!

I run a network of 45 computers locally, and over 30 external systems at different processing plants around the us.. and I use AVG exclusively.
Although I use the pay version of AVG for these business computers, I use AVG FREE for my home systems and for all of my customers (I run a pc/network company after hours).
It puts the pay services (McAfee, Norton, Panda, etc..) to shame!

The best free one is: AntiVir
It works real time and has realtime auto updates, all for FREE.
This is what Best Buy uses when you bring your computer to them to get it cleaned/maintained.
ZoneAlarm ties up your resources, slowing down your computer. Never use a software firewall, they slow everything down.
Get a router with a built in firewall for extra protection.

zone alarm.com and Avast.com
be sure to add zone alarm and avast home edition ones............ Zone Alarm is good for blocking unwanted Internet sites from coming up, also blocks ad ware and spy ware. Avast is just your normal anti virus program is also free unless you pay for a better version

AVG is the best free one in my opinion, but Avast! is pretty good too.
