I did smoke through my pregnacy and let me tell you what I did to my son. He was born a maconimum(sp) baby (that's a bowel movment inutro and can cause many things including death) with the shakes and now has breathing issues, had colic for the first 3 months of his life and acid reflux we couldn't get under control for the first 6 months of his life. While he is for the most part a happy healthy 20 month old now he had a REALLY rocky start. Did I make a selfish chioce? Yes!!!! Would I do it again? HELL NO!!!!!!! Now, we had a lot of problems getting him here wich could have caused any or all of the his birth problems but I will forever blame my choice to continue to smoke for what happened to him. I spent the first week of my son's life crying everytime I was alone with him because I KNEW that I had done this to my child. I love my boy more then life and would take back all of it if I could. I know that women that smoke have healthy babies all the time and they will tell you that there isn't any thing wrong with it. Let me be the first one to admit to what I did to my son. I'd rather admit that I did wrong and let other women know what CAN happen. Every friend I have smoked through their pregnancy and they have healthy babies. I didn't.

I used to smoke and As soon as i found out i was pg i quit, i wouldn't do that to my baby and I can't imagine a mother doing such harm. There are a lot of studies that show the relationship between smokers and babies with malformations. I don't think that a woman who smokes while pg should be carrying a child, if she isn't able to quit that she won't be able to handle a lot more once the baby is born.
I'm really happy for myself, it's an awful habbit and I'm not planning on doing it again. I don't want my baby getting second hand smoke once he's born or picking up on such a bad habbit.

no. if i was to even think i was pregnant , even before i took a test, i would seriously stop and find out. smoking during pregnancy can really do some harm to your baby. In some cases, many woman are different. some have smoked all through their pregnancy and their baby turned out fine. i think its a bad idea for any woman to put their baby at risk , because they need a smoke. i know its hard to quit, but they need to do it for their baby.

I know people are gonna be mad about this but I was alread smoking when I got pregnant and my doctor told me to cut back. I would put my body through too much stress to quit cold turkey. I have 2 grown boys, 18 & 15. Oldest going to college in Aug. All A's. Other one not so good in school...I had quit smoking by then.

Smoking causes yours and the babies blood vessals to constrict making it harder for blood to supply the developing baby with nourishment and oxygen. It is best not to smoke but I know how tough it is to stop. If you cannot stop smoking try to cut it down. If you decide to quit smoking do not use nicotine gum of patch as that also causes damage because of the amount of nicotine going into the body. Also remember how hard it is to stop smoking, after the baby is born it too is addicted to smoke also so you will have a very crappy baby as it will be craving nicotine.

I would quit smoking as soon as the "positive" line showed up on the pregnancy test. I would never want to take any risks on the health of my unborn baby.

I have heard that if you quit smoking into your pregnancy, that it can cause major shock to the baby. I have no idea if that is true or not.

No way! So bad for so many reasons! If you are too selfish to quit for at least nine months to benefit the health of your baby, then you are unfit to be a mother, in my opinion. Also, for people who smoke after their children are born, PLEASE don't smoke around them!!!! Don't smoke in the house where your babies are sleeping! My two cousins developed very serious breathing problems because of two very inconsiderate parents. Also, if I see one more parent smoking in the car with their children, I will go crazy! Opening the window is not good enough! Smoking is harmful, but it is a personal choice. Smoke if you want to, but don't force it upon those who are too young to make that choice for themselves. Disgusting...

actually, i continued to smoke with my first child, he came out fine. with the other 3, i completely stopped and did not start again until after breast feeding was complete. all my children were and continue to be healthy. none have ever really had any health problems. we have diabetes and heart disease in our family history. God blessed me completely. we have had the normal childhood sickness but nothing serious. i do not recommend smoking during pregnancy for this will cause low birth weight and believe me with all the pollutants in the air we don't need to pollute it any worse.

I would never smoke because it is bad for yet a baby your going to bring into this world. I hate mothers that smoke while pregnant and even around their baby's. It is not fair to the baby. that baby didn't choose that. If your baby means anything to you, you wouldn't smoke while pregnant.

Smoking during pregnancy is selfish. The words mother and selfish should never be used in the same sentence.
