If poor people had thousands of dollars and Middle Class people had Millions of dollars and Rich people billions of dollars which they do but for arguments sake just go along with me. Wouldn't the poor people still be considered poor. Our society is made up of 3 classes and if it was not we would live in 3rd world country were there are rich people and poor people no middle class. Everyone can not be rich and everyone can not be middle class it doesn't work that way. All you can do is help out those less fortunate then yourself and try to make a difference in there life. Poverty is not a choice poverty is what this country requires of people so that our economy remains functional. I don't like it but I can understand the repercussion of have a two class society like Mexico. We need three classes here unfortunately.

So, there are 1000 people in this country? Nice math there guyfawkes911. $37 billion over 300million people - approx $125 for every person in the US. Assume 10% of the nation is below the poverty line (I don't know what it really is, just guessing) - that's $1,250 per poverty-ridden person. Not quite a million. :-)

Poverty will always be with us. As long as we are willing to help those that want to better themselves or can't realisticly provide for themselves, we are really doing all we can.

There are enough resources in the world to satisfy the needs of the entire population but as long as we have greedy nations such as USA which constantly undercut the efforts of the developing nations, poverty will remain a perennial problem! For instance, look at what happened to the WTO Doha Round which recently ended with no conclusion but an utter failure, all because of the greedy rich countries such as USA and Europe!

The Bible says, the poor you will always have with you. So, there were poor back in biblical times and there are poor now, just many more of them. How can one end poverty? If those who have more than they need will give of their excess to those in need, we will reduce the suffering involved to those that are poor. I am not saying that the Government should overtax the wealthy to give "entitlement programs" to those in need. We have had entitlements since the 60's and all we have now is more poor people who have lost any incentive to work hard and have less children. Why would they, they get paid additional money from our taxes for each child they have and they get penalized if they earn money. Better we provide a limited entitlement with additional benefits for those who earn from a legitimate job. We could even provide training for employment.

No one has tried to end poverty!

One of our biggest problems is ""free Enterprise" (which is a figment of someones imagination) and their collusion with the government.

All corporations, especially one's like Walmart, leave dollar droughts behind them. In other words, your money, instead of being kept locally, where it can do some good, gets sent to Boston or New York! It doesn't stay locally or is it spent locally. In addition they pay there workers garbage, and there are few of them, compared to what THEY make. In the meantime, your downtown stores are getting decimated. You want to change the system, it is EASY!! You keep your money and locally. Yes, initially you will pay more, but what you make up will far exceed what you have to spend, Instead of supporting the Rich, start supporting your communities!! You even create jobs, rather than lose them!

This economy works by supply and demand. If they have overstocked, which they love to do, you get laid off! This economy can never reach full employment, and the buffer for the rich and companies, is everyone that is laid off or isn't working. Companies know it is inbuilt, and so does the government, but the greedy bastards want you to think it is the people who are not working faults. They are unwilling to help those in need THAT THEY CAUSED, and expect the YOU to do it! Hell, they pay no Taxes!! Oil companies are paying 2 to 4% in taxes and look what they are racking in!! 48 of the largest companies paid NO tax. In fact, some got rebates on the tyaxes they didn't pay!!!

If you want to change it, it can be done, but initially you will have to pay a little more, but people in your community, bank in your community, live in your community, pay taxes in your community and create jobs in your community. They money doesn't end up where it is now! You get to keep it!

Letting corporations suck you dry is your own fault, and people in this country die every day so some rich prick can take his corporate jet to the Bahamas, or Europe, and write it off as a "business expense" ! The same with their 750 $125,000 BMW's that you pay for.

It is so easy, but most of you are willing to let people suck you dry so they can be rich, and they could care less about you, any of you, but they have YOU blaming the victims they create, and you buy it! To them you are just a number, and one that doesn't even count! Until they need to make some more money off your back! They create NOTHING!! You do!!

only the few of us who live in Africa know what poverty really means. poverty is brought by capitalism. for capitalism to survive it need market. you can only generate market, a strong market, if and only if very little % of the population produce and the rest buys from those few. why there is poverty? for the case of Africa; the western powers did all they could to stop big industrial development and advancement. the result is no industries, no jobs = poverty. in Africa we import everything, from office pins to clothes, from tea spoon to wooden desks, even if all the timber come from Africa. we only produce farm outputs, but the western powers control the selling price. in spite of that, they give their farmers subsidies. poverty cant just go away. stop capitalism first, then you can start talking. otherwise it will be blah blah
