The earth does not have a perfectly circular orbit around the sun. It is at its closest point to the sun in January, which is winter in the northern hemisphere and summer in the southern hemisphere.
For everyone who got the answer correct, I will keep my promise and soon email you the secret.

The answer is both.
When the Earth is closest to the sun (at perihelion), usually during the first week of January, it is winter in the northern hemisphere while at the same time it is summer in the southern hemisphere.
But I already have everything I need, like a wife who worships me and proves it by preparing burnt offerings before me three times a day.

It depends on which part of the earth you are on. It occurs during the month of January so it is winter in the northern hemisphere and summer in the southern hemisphere.

I see that all people answering to your questio have the same mistake I made some weeks ago. the winter and summer are not generated only because the earth going closer or back when it turns around sun but also because they are placed above and under earth middle line or belt so when there is summer in some countries there is winter in others( it is winter in australia and new zealand now). when earth is in most clos to sun there is both winter and sumer in earth.........although i did not answer because of that tip from you but however my e-mail is: a_persianboy_a@yahoo.com

Both. The Earth's perihelion is in early January. This makes it winter in the N. Hemisphere and summer in the S. Hemisphere.

it is closer in the winter. The angle the sun's light hits the Earth is what determines the temperature. As a matter of fact June-July is when the Earth is the farthest from the sun.

Winter, our winter that is. I know some people might think it's summer because of the temperature, and they'll think common sense it has to be summer but no. Our Earth absorbs those heat waves in the summer because of the angle the sun is posing on us.
