I had a friend who was 9 months pregnant and got in a vehicle accident and lost her baby. It was because she was wearing a seat belt. Sad, but true.
I am 9 months pregnant now and the only time I wear a seatbelt is if I'm a passenger in the front seat. No other time. Pregnant or not. I don't think it's safe, not to mention the seatbelt doesn't always fit around me properly.

When I was about 5 months pregnant.. i noticed that seatbelts started to reaaaally hurt my stomach.. I asked my doctor about it, and they did an ultrasound. Due to some medical reasons.. my doctor told me to either not ride in a car.. or to not wear my seatbelt when I had too.. and it IS a valid excuse. I got pulled over a few times, but I explained and showed the cop the letter the DR. had written me.. and no ticket...
Unless there is a medical issue, you should ALWAYS wear your seatbelt. The seat belt IS big enough.. you're not the only (insert pounds here) person who has ridden in a car before. And if you wear the seatbelt the PROPER way.. then it isn't going to hurt the baby if you're in an accident.

while pregnant with my first child I wore the shoulder strap only (my seat belt was two clasps) and I was in an accident, I was rear-ended, and by not having the lap belt on I saved my baby's life. The doc told me that was why he was able to come out without any problems. I was 10wks along.
I always wore a seatbelt all the time, but especially while pregnant, just have to adjust it so that it is under the belly

There is no problem with driving while pg. And you should ALWAYS wear your seatbelt, the correct way is to put the lower strap under your belly (never over it) and the other one between your breasts. The only time when they might restrain your driving is when you are too far along, you dont wanna have an accident and having your belly pushed to the wheel, or starting contractions while driving. Talk to your OBGYN for more info on this.

Seatbelts Greatly Reduce Harm to Pregnant Drivers and Fetuses During Car Crashes
Washington, DC -- Pregnant drivers who do not wear a seatbelt when involved in a car crash are nearly three times more likely to experience a fetal death and twice as likely to have excessive maternal bleeding than are belted pregnant drivers involved in a car crash, according to a study in the August issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Pregnant drivers not wearing seatbelts in a car crash were also more likely to deliver low birth-weight infants than pregnant drivers not involved in a car crash.
According to the researchers of this study at the University of Utah, in collaboration with the Center for Injury Research and Control at the University of Pittsburgh, many pregnant women still do not wear seatbelts despite substantial research on the overall protective value of seatbelts. Previous research shows that the leading reasons for this include forgetting, discomfort or inconvenience, no seatbelt available, and fear that the seatbelts may cause injury to the woman or the fetus. Since motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of traumatic fetal death in the US, the researchers suggest that strategies be developed to improve seatbelt usage among pregnant women.

any person pregnant or not that doesn't wear a seatbelt is an idiot. i've never heard of anyone being to big while pregnant not being able to wear one, and i've known some seriously big pregnant ladies. i had a friend that was in a car accident while 5 or 6 months prenant. sadly the baby separated from the sac and died. it was a horrible situation that i would never wish on anyone.

I was in an accident with my first child and wearing a seat belt and we were both fine. 5 years later I was pregnant with my 3rd child and a woman ran a stop sign and we hit her and again I was wearing a seatbelt and we were both fine. In both cases my cars were totaled.

Why would you not wear a seatbelt, pregnant or not? As far as I know, it is ALWAYS a good idea to wear one, especially if you have little baby inside of you to keep safe.

Yes I rode without a seat belt while pregnant because the car didn't have seat belts. I also fell hard enough to go to the emergency room and the baby, who's 29th birthday is today, was fine. I was reckless while pregnant but my 'guardian spirit' watched over me. If I had had a seat belt in the car I would have worn it.
