Kings in the past were being killed, depending on many reasons. Maybe there was a rebellion against the king and the king wasn't strong enough to defend, then finaaly he was killed and the country was taken over. Or maybe when the king got many heirs, there might be a fiight between the princes or maybe they killed their father to take over the throne earlier. Or maybe the lords who ruled the states become powerful and rebel against the king. Or maybe the citizens weren't content with the rulers and held the rebellion. Or maybe the city got larger and larger until it became so big that the king couldn't get his control all over the region.For example, while the king is controling the west part, there might be corruptions in the east part. Or maybe the citizens didn't respect the king anyone and while there were corruptions, the generals might take over the power and kill the king. Or maybe the king was too dumb that he couldn't manage the city at all and was betrayed.
In fact, there are lots of reasons you can think of. There are still some reasons like diseases were spread over the country and the king was also killed, like these reasons are not difficult to think of. If you think deeply, I'm sure that you will get the answers.

The people felt oppressed so they kill the king to form a new society.
Back then it wasn't 4 year terms like we have in politics today.
Kings would be there for life.
Sometimes it was done by somebody who would directly benefit, like the guy who would take his place.

People power overturned the kings. Some were killed while escaping while others were killed by the people
