I have all those, minus the sister,my mom/dad are the only ones I talk to on a regular basis,my cousins, aunts uncles etc... are too busy or just dont care about family...
I have my husband and children also, take comfort that you are not completely alone and make the most of life! there are nursing homes that do sorta an adopt a grandparent thing, that is always fun, have done this a couple times! it enhances their lives because alot of people living there dont have anyone at all!

There really isn't much better in this world than having a good family. I am fortunate enough to know. I have 2 sisters, one brother, my mother and father are still married, almost 30 years now I think. It is a very fortunate situation and I feel for all of those who do not know. A few of my friends growing up did not have great families, so they basically became part of mine.

Wow I am really sorry. I had a mom and dad who divorcedwhen i was 7 and he married again and I have two half sister, I have tons of aunts and uncles. Sometimes its not all its cracked up to be my mom was s ingle mother but loved me she was very hard on me and always expected more than I could give, my dad had his 2nd family going so was a little less concerned with me. I am however happily married with 3 kids and we have loads of fun. It's great to have a large extended family don't get me wrong. I am glad I do but you know what as long as you have your kids and partner thats what matters as long as you are happy.
Make the best of your life now and teach your kids what it means to be loved.

Define proper? Family doesn't have to be related. Family can be with friends or other loved ones if that is all you have. My Father walked out when I was 12. My sister and I have never been close and I live 700 miles away from my mother. My friends have always been there for me. They are as much my family as an blood relative. In my father's case, even moreso.

I have the lot, a sister, a brother in law, nephews, mum and dad, uncles and aunts, cousins... sometimes it's great and sometimes it's hell... nowadays I only see parts of my family because the rest of us have fallen out, sometimes on very good grounds (drugs, incest, etc.)
Don't fool yourself, there is no ideal family, there is always a dark side to it and the disadvantages sometimes outweigh the benefits.

Your family is who you choose to be around. It might be your best friend or your crazy sister. I come from a huge family, Im the ninth child and was raised by both of my parents in the same household. But I dont even really know some of my sisters that well. I feel like I know their kids better. But its still family. I consider my best frend robyn more like a sister than some of my real sisters. Family is so much more than blood. Family is more like acceptance. I accept all of my brothers and sisters for who they are, and they accept me. But I think the best family is the one that you create for yourself in this life. Good luck! Hope this helps.

A family doesn't have to be made up of people who are blood related. A proper family is a group of people who love, care & look out for each other. My family is made up of relatives & a couple of close friends who would stand by me thick & thin. They are just as important & sometimes closer than those who share my bloodline.
Sometimes, these family members are more 'proper' than the relatives in that they don't have to be there for me. They choose to be there.

To me family is two levels up from good friendship.
In a family there should be absolute trust in and support for each other. I know it isn't always like that (In our case, I hate my dad's sister's husband, she is só ignorant), but with my sisters, brothers and parents I feel 100% that way.

Ignore the rude comments people put on here. It's nice to have a family because they will always be there for you no matter what. And will always love you. Im sure your husband and kids will give you that love though. They're your family and will always be there for you in the good moments and bad.
