I have been reading the first book of his childhood abuse, and it seems that his mother gets away with it. The only thing that happens is the autorities take him away from her, but she never pays for the horrible deeds she has committed so I was wondering if there was some kind of punishment in the end. I know that she is dead now.

Their are two more books the next one looks at Davids teen years with the last one seeing him as an adult trying to come to terms with what happened.

This last book documents his visit as an adult to his mother to ask her why.

Its a very moving trilogy

As for his mother...... punishment was life without love the law did nothing
