EVERYTHING or SONG or FILE you download needs to be scanned by a Anti-Virus checker before opening!
Someone who knows what there doing can attach a virus to ANY file and have the extention read anything they want. Its true if a song or movie has the extention .exe it is probably BAD. but thoes are the ones written by script kitties who don't really khow how to create a virus, only attach and spread one.
I have some FREE protection software following my recomendations about Limewire.
I do not recommend using Limewire or Kazza or P2P programs because they ALWAYS contain spyware / adware and I have repaired many computers because of the other programs they download in the background with out your knowledge. It's like opening a floodgate and they eventually clog your computer until it's useless.
I use bit torrent.
The speed is determined by not just you but the other users. They might have a slower speed, or there could be heavy traffic (your end or theirs) slowing it down.
Some times other users sending you files log off and your stuck waiting till the next day when they log on again.
There are so many possibilities.
I have had a few 700MB movies take over a Week to get it all, and some never finish because when the other person is done they stop sharing.
Hope this helps, and remember to share at least 110% or for one week which ever comes first to help others.
I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)
The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)
The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html)<--English version
AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.
These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.
The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)
for further information on computer safety.

In the case of MP3s, depending on song length will be between 3MB and 5MB, anything less than that is likely a virus say if something is 654KB, that's a virus. I have seen songs that are 10MB+ but those are either longer or encoded at a higher bitrate, you have to check both. So if it's an insanely small file, it's a virus and viruses can always be tucked away within larger files and you'd never know the difference, always scan any file you download from any P2P network with your virus scanner before trying to run or play it.

well, a song should never have the file extension exe. That means its' a program of some sort. Also you kind of tell which may have a virus if it's file is alot bigger than another one. For example you get 10 matches to what you're looking for and 9 are 5megabites and 1 is 10 megabites there's something funny going on with that one.

I advise that you DONT download ANY files with the extention .exe. on Limewire.
I also use limewire, and get NOTHING but viruses from it. Thankfully, Avast is a kick *** virus scanner and normally catches them before anything infects my machine.
Make sure that once you download something, don't just play it immediately, always check it with your virus scanner first. I know this is a hassle, but if your going to use P2P sharing programs, then this is the only way to keep your machine safe.

Its flawlessly authorized to make use of Limewire and Limewire professional. Its simplest what you down load and wether you're entitled to a duplicate is an extra factor. To down load William Peterson is unlawful if you don't already possess the dvd. You ought to purchase it or might turn out to be procuring 10,000 copies of the dvd and potentially jail time....if you're traced and unfastened in courtroom.

Well there is no real extention to avoid in common song formatts as virus rely on the existance of the file - the host file.
I would suggest paying for your music - so aslong as Sony BMG don't pul another stunt your computer should be safe from Spyware and virus (well from music anyway)

Do not trust .exe .zip or any other compressed or executable file downloaded form Peer 2 Peer programs. ALWAYS scan them with a virus scanner and spyware scanner before opening them.
