Just go the Independence Hall area. There loads of stuff.
If you're going now too, I'd check out the Phillies. My wife HATES baseball but she had a lot fun here last year

We have a great science museum, The Frankilin Institute, which has a world class planetarium (among many other things) and an Imax theatre. Also the Philadelphia Zoo, particularly if you have kids. Valley Forge National Park is about a half hour outside the city, if you are into Revolutionary War History.

Budget a lot of money for going out to eat. Philadelphia has one of the best dining out scenes in the country.
Independence Hall and the historical area there was always a favorite of mine. A lesser known historical place is Elfreth's alley, I think it's called. Don't be afraid to talk to the reenactors at Independence Hall, they're great with suggestions. You can really wing a weekend trip in Philly... lots to do.

I was a parent chaperone with my daughter's eighth grade class that traveled there from the SF Bay Area.
We loved: the Hard Rock Cafe--just for the atmosphere, but the food was only so-so.
Of course the historical sites: where the Liberty Bell is, and the first Post Office, the Constitution Center (can't remember the exact name). Downtown area was interesting. Reminded me a little of NY, but not as crowded.
I think you'll like it. Probably a lot more places/things to do. We were only there 1 night.

The two new stadiums are awesome! Take a walk around Center City. Go to The Gallery Mall on Market St. Check out Delaware Ave at night. Also, you must eat at The Capital Grille on Broad St.

If you're not from the area - you should see the liberty bell. It's a cool, quick event and then just stroll around. Also, head up to the art museum and do the Rocky thing.
