Do you know what a Communist is. Canada has in the past had members of Parliament that were communist. The social programs you talk about came about because they were good ideas to deal with social problems. They are now widely accepted and cherished government programs.
When an idea is good it can be adopted no matter whose idea it was. Medicare one of our best was first introduces by a Socialist government. It worked so well it became a national program. And it is still working today even though there have had to be some changes.
You can throw around any labels you want but if you know what you are talking about you would know Canada is a constitutional democracy. We can choose a government of any political strip we want.

As an American, I see it from this point of view. In some ways, I feel that Americans can benefit from the social programs(such as your nationalized health care system) that Canada has now. I have heard problems with the Canadian Health Care system, but at least it is provided to us with the taxes you pay. In the US, we pay premimums to health insurance companies(and they only sometimes pay depending on your plan). Premimums are expensive. The leftover cost is expensive too. However, you need to reform too. You need your own guiding light that represents the moral values for your country. Criticizing the US because you fear of our culture is not going to change Canada. Canada can only change Canada. Canada is not a victim of the US. You wanted business and industry from the US and you took it just as you are getting business from other countries. By the way, there was always criticism of the U by Canada(not just in recent years. Let americans criticize America.

you can play with lots of words all day long, but the reality is that if an old church lady gets cancer in Canada, she will be treated the same as Ken Lay (if we had let him in.)
If she gets cancer in the US, she dies.
Our taxes are higher to pay for that, but that's a big reason why automakers keep building plants in Canada. Their US workers cost them much more in health care than their Canadian workers. If that's communism, I'll take over any US slum.

I don't hear any Canadians complaining about it. Do you? Our government doesn't seem to have a problem with them either. If they were really a Communist state, the US would be speaking against them a bit more than we do now.
