I think that there are going to be some interesting shifts in Prem power over the next few years. (eg. Liverpool overtaking Man U and Arsenal perhaps. And who knows what will happen if a bunch of billionnaire Arabs take over Villa.)

The reason I say this is because I think Chelsea's aggressive transfer policy is masking the fact that Man U and Arsenal are barely investing in their own squads.

Let's be honest, will Man U replace Ruud with a striker of the same calibre? (No.)

Will Wenger's signing of Thomas Rosicky compensate for the loss of Cole, Pires, Campbell and Bergkamp? (No - they still haven't got over the loss of Edu and Vieira.)

So, not only will they have less chance of matching Chelsea, they'll also have to be looking over their shoulders at the decent clubs that are investing in their squads (Spurs and Liverpool).

They're both still gonna finish in the top 4, whether they'll win the league or not, that's a different question.

Being a Liverpool fan, nothing would give me more pleasure than for Man United to win fook all, season in, season out.

Manchester United are being saddled with the Glazers' debts. it is difficult to see them staying as the force they were in the past. As you point out, they are not spending as much on new players as is needed fo a leading European Club.

Arsenal is a different story. They have kept their football expenditure on a tight rein whilst they built their new stadium. Now they can reap the rewards through higher crowds, and, I fear, better executive suites etc. And Arsenal have unrivalled links to the London financial world. Arsenal are a coming force, not a fading one. I wish they would sign or, preferably, develop from their youth team, some good English players though.

They'll both remain forces to be reckoned with, Arsenal and Manchester, but they won't be in any title races in the coming years. A bit like Middlesbrough a few years ago, or Newcastle: tough away games, European football candidates, but that's about it. Both Wenger and Ferguson will leave their clubs within two seasons.

Chelsea is rich enough to remain at the top, Liverpool will close the gap I think and there's a few other clubs to make it interesting for third place and below (Man U, Arsenal, Spurs, Newcastle etc). But otherwise, you're spot on I think.

i,m a utd supporter and the loss of van nistolroy is bad but to be fair he has been on a slippery slope for a while now and the strike
force is not the problem now they got a creative midfielder like carrick with scoles could be just what they need but i think fergusen wlii still buy somebody else and i dont think arsenal will miss campbell and cole missed most of last year pires is a loss cause he has been top player in midfield scorer for a few years
rossikey is a good player and fresher legs 25 years old fabreges
is much better than viera if he was english they couldn,t afford him arsenal and utd will be fine liverpool have bought good
and got rid of cisse spurs are bottlers no chance

Man U have rested on the laurels for the last few years, they have had a team that works and they hope it lasts for years, the only problem being that when you argue with fergie you get your marching orders, he seems to get rid of most of his team that way, perhaps a new manager would take them back to the top with a few new signings.
Arsenal seemed to be doing the same last season, but I think that they have lost the will to win and with Henry still there they have a good chance, he is inspirational and what a class act.
Chelsea are hard to beat at the moment as they have some very good players and they gel together very well.
But saying that any team with a few good players that gel together can give the rest of the top teams a run for their money.

The fact is Man united is facing serious crisis for the past 5seasons and if something is not done about furgy who is loosing his touch as a world class manager he would sink united with him he should be replaced with scolari or Klinsman while Arsenal i think are now getting to be a more and serious threat to english teams everyone knows they had an injury problem with half of the team out early last season but at the mid of the season they got their tempo back and became serious threat not just in england but europe so i think people should watch out for them cos they really look hungry for the prem and CL.

Of the two, ManU are "fading".

Arsenal made it to the Champions League Final with great young talent last season and with a new stadium and Henry locked up have the foundation for success.

United's "fading" has nothing to do with the Glazers but everything to do with Ferguson's inability to construct the right team. He can still "motivate" (bully) United, hence their second place finish last season. But beyond the great Wayne Rooney, they have personnel problems.

theres no doubt that utd are a fading force you cant stay at the top forever ask liverpool how long has it taken them to emerge as title contenders?

arsenal still have a lot of youth in their ranks losing campbell is a relief for them he was more of a burden than an asset of late, rosickymore than compensates for the loss of pires iv been watching the dumplin for a few years now he is a v good player as for cole cliche is probably as good so if he stays fit they wont notice so much plus with the 20m or so they do get from cole they can sign maybe chimbonda or someone to cover never underestimate wenger he is shrewd and the best manager in the prem, as for bergy in fairness he hasn't really been too involved lately so i dont think he will be sorely missed but if he stays on to coach that can only be a bonus for them

liverpool and spurs are looking like contenders jol and benitez have done wonders with their clubs. i think liverpool will push chelski all the way this season and could even nick it? you never know

as a utd supporter if carrick comes and maybe the argie macherano(something like that) comes to utd then we might be able to compete but i think as time goes on fergie is losing his touch forcing out our star players (beckham stam ruud yorke)is really startin to hurt us we are losing our appeal to other players, but dont rule us out there maybe a surprise in store
