Personally, I have a non-accent; I was born in Florida and moved so often growing up that I never developed one. My dad is from NY, and my mom is Eurpoean, so theirs cancel each other out. I think it's made me hyper-sensitive to various dialects. Which one grates on your nerves the most - midwest, northern, southern, non-accent, or do you like them all?

glastograysy, SHAME on you! We're not all fat & obnoxious! Most people talk right over me because my voice is so soft and quiet.

We have to suffer many a big fat Americans here in the UK.

They speak so loud, just to make sure that everybody, within a 100 yard radius, knows that "the sheriff" is in town.

I would rather shave of my pubic hair and squat into a bowl of vinegar than hear that horrible whining slack vocabulary that the Americans call language.

You will get so many different answers to this, since it is so subjective. Southerners will say they dislike the Northern accent (like Boston, NY, NJ), while Northerners will say they dislike the southern (like Georgia, Louisiana, North Carolina).
Some may pick a specific country.

Personally I do not mind most accents, as long as they are speaking English.

I'm with glastograysy, most Americans I've come across are loud obnoxious and NASAL. Maybe you don't notice it but the rest of the world does. When you all talk it sets our teeth on edge. Ebonics is probably the worst though. What the hell are they talking about?!

To Mujer Y: I don't agree with you. Only the upper society people in the UK speak clearly. Other UK persons speak with such a thick accent, it's usually impossible to understand on first hearing. The grammer is horrible too! That cocknei (sp) thing is the worst, though!

my family came from the south and some of us have that southern accent, (which I dont mind at all) I live in california. theres an accent that is partly southern but the people in a town called Exeter in california have these creepy white trash who have costomized the accent into what I call a white trash accent it sounds like they have some southern back ground and it creeps me totally out. I never go there any more. but I also I just cant stand people faking an accent,. drives me crazy.the whitetrash accent isnt fake they just modified the southern accent which totally sucks, like I said I never go there now,

i can't stand the northern accent, its so annoying when a guy from the north gets at me and trys to obviously get me to say ooh ahh to his accent, it makes me want to gag! I hate the midwest as well, i couldn't live up there cause those peoples accents just irritates me too much.

Some southern accents annoy me. Not all of them but I hate when you find yourself trying to talk to someone who sounds like they have a mouth full of food and leaves out every other letter and talks really slowwwwww.

Jersey and New York are the worst to me. Some southern ones are annoying: Tennessee is too sloooow, VA is too inbetween N and S.

there are various modifications of the "American accessory" so i'm uncertain it may truly be observed. i will tell while somebody is faking a southern accessory although this is basic to over do it with that one besides.

Guys sorry for this but when you speak english, all the US people, the accents are bad and it is hard to get you at first time. The only good accent is UK people, sorry!!! They speak clean, very clean and even a person who does not speak lot of english understands them.
