Folic acid is one of the most important and best prenatal vitamins for women who are pregnant. All women of childbearing age, with even a remote chance of getting pregnant, should try to make sure they get enough folic acid. The reason is that many pregnancies are not planned. Many women don't know they are actually pregnant early in their pregnancies, and certain birth defects happen in the very early part of pregnancy. Taking 400 micrograms (mcg) of folic acid every day will help prevent certain birth defects that happen in the early part of pregnancy. If a woman begins taking vitamin pills in the second or third month of pregnancy, it may be too late to prevent birth defects. Folic acid may also have other health benefits for women besides preventing birth defects.
Good nutrition is very essential to health of everyone and must be highly emphasized especially during pregnancy. There are several vitamins the human body needs which each one got a specific functions hence the body should get all what is needed to get rid of any undesired effects caused by defeciency.Different food sources are just around so careful choice of what is included in every meal must be given high importance during the prenatal period. We got plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables around to provide the neds for vitamins.Folic acid need can be sufficed by eating leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, beans, whole grains and fortified cereals.Food is the best source for all the prenatal vitamins and they are natural. Given a consideration that pregnancy increases the body demand for the nutrients plus the factors of pregnancy that changes in the mood of eating might be insufficient, taking additional supplement might be of importance. In this case your obstetrician might prescribe supplemental folic acid or multivitamins. I would like to emphasize however that the brands of any prenatal vitamins do not give much differences of the effects if compared to each other.More or less they have the same components with variable prices depending on the manufacturer.
Positive outlook towards your pregnancy is just as important with any of the vitamins. This has to be alongside with those prenatal vitamins to enhance their effectivity and hopefully will yield a healthy pregnancy.

When I was preg with my son, he's 11 yrs now, I had morning sickness all through the pregnancy. I went into premature labor at 19 weeks and was put on meds & bed rest for that, but with the morning sickness that was the only thing I could keep down and that was barely. So I wasn't able to take any vitamins or anything. Actually, I could barely eat I was so sick. When I went into the hospital to have him, I wweighed less than when I founf out I was pregnant. Today, he is a hyperactive, very healthy very active (always has been, even before birth) 100% boy, so what kind of vitamins dont mean a whole lot.

I am a pediatric nurse for 13 years prenatal vitamins are beneficial in the growth of your unborn baby it helps the babies lungs and heart and body and brain develop properly I recommend the prenatal vitamins from your OBGYN and if not make sure if you use a over the counter prenatal vitamin that it has folic acid and biotin which is what the baby and you both need for strong bones and healthy immune systems

It doesn't really matter, as long as it is a prenatal vitamin. I have 3 children and bought over the counter vitamins from the drug store and all are completely healthy and defect free. I am pregnant with my 4th and also taking the over the counter type and so far so good. Also, you don't have to buy the most expensive kinds as they are no different than the "off" brands. Your doctor should also prescribe you some and if you can tolerate them, they will be fine. I couldn't as they had too much vitamin B complex for energy and made me loopy! LOL

I am currently taking prenatal vitamins, and they are over the counter. My Doctor told me that I could take any prenatal vitamin I wished, since they all contain the same nutrients, and that I could take the hospital's brand or a generic brand. It didn't matter much just as long as I was taking them. She also told me that the store brand is much cheaper, and works just as well. I started taking Stuart prenatal, and it does work great, and it gives me a lot of energy. It is also very inexpensive. If you buy an over the counter, than just compare them, and choose whichever you would prefer to take, or that fits your budget.

Without a doubt, Folic Acid is #1. It prevents spina bifida. There are 2 types of spina bifida: oculta and verde. Oculta is benign, verde can kill the baby or it can be confined to a wheelchair, mentally retard, for a few years before death. So, if nothing else, be sure to take your folic acid. It is more crucial than you think. If you can not find or can not tolerate prenatal vitamins, and really, they're all the same, please, please take your folic acid. With orange juice or with just water if you're diabetic and can't drink the oj.

I don't believe there is a single right answer for this question. However, overdosing on vitamins or minerals especially vitamin D and iron can be very harmful. Healthy eating, with or without a multi-vitamin, and your doctor's advice are probably the best
recommendations. Good luck, I hope your baby is strong, healthy, intelligent and loving.

Go to your local Health Food Store like Akin's, GNC, or Wild Oats health food store and talk to them about prenatal vitamin and they can help you find. I took some from a health store and I had a lot more energy. So just talk to a worker in the store and they help you find one that will work for you. So check that out and see what you think. You can go to there web sites and check the vitamins out or just give them a call.
Blessings

Your doctor problably is going to give you tons of samples. To be honest the best prenatal is the one that does not bother your stomach. Some of them can actually make your stomach more upset.
I took 4 gummy vitamins every day :-) they have lots of folic acid and they did not make me sick

The best prenatal vitamin is the one that is prescribed by your obstetrician. When I was pregnant I was prescribed one by the brand StuartNatal, which I believe also sells a prenatal vitamin that is available over the counter.

My mum had 13 kids she never swallowed any kind of pills while she was pregnant or breast feeding not even for a headace, but she always ate loads of fruit through out the day and when it came to meal times she always had loads of veg - she made the best "menestroni "- my dad always made her have liver once a week and she drank ribina instead of soft drinks, and milk instead of coffee. I was 11lbs when i was born and the smallest baby sister was 7lbs
We are all in good health thank God - breast feeding plays an important roll in babies development to....u can tell from the teeth :)
