Yes, the eye can get infected with a lot of different organisms. STDs can effect the eyes. There is gonorrhea of the eye. If your eyes are in this condition please have a general or eye doctor look at you.

Yes, any bacteria can get in the tear duct or on the eye and cause an infection. Wearing contacts can cause redness and a scratch on the eye can cause burning, redness and watering.

profuse conjunctival injection (breaking of a blood vessel) can discolor the entire white of the eye. Usually spontaneous (no known reason) Not considered an infection but if you have never had it before, you would become overly concerned. May also occur if experiencing a blow to the eye..

episcleritis will do that. it is inflimation of the sclera or white part of your eye. i have experienced it as a side effect of crohns disease but i guess it could be caused by several sources.
