Most of the story on the NEWS has something about overweight people. It's ALWAYS bad. You see articles in the magazines which do not say anything good about overweight people as well. Note: I am 18 pounds overweight(I know it's not much for a guy).

Society has groomed people to only notice the 'beautiful' ones. All the advertising, clothes, and general 'stuff' gets sold only by the anorexic and heroin-looking individuals. Well, most of it anyway. Therefore, the people in the world who truly do struggle with their weight either from genetics or disease or even just mental addiction to food get pushed aside. In my opinion, that just increases their insecurity and feeds that which drives them to eat even more and become more obese. Dieting is a 'fad' that comes and goes.. America is generally a lazy society.. We can certainly pick a thousand reasons why obese people get treated differently but the bottom line is... Those who are truly bothered by it will do something about it and those who aren't.. won't.

It takes courage and strength to overcome any hardship. I admire those who are willing to sacrifice to lose weight and exercise.

Obesity is a serious health risk. The AMA estimates that "approximately 64% of the adult population is either overweight or obese." They go on to say that "approximately 300,000 deaths a year are associated with this condition." The cost in healthcare amounted to $117 billion dollars in 2000. To make the problem worse there is a disparity among children to adults. Obesity can lead to premature death, heart disease, diabetes, some cancers and other serious health problems. As obesity becomes more of a problem in America it is important for the media educate society as to the risks and solutions.

I think "hate" is a strong word. In my opinion, a lot of Americans really try to keep their weight at a healthy range...not over-eating, spending tons of money on gym memberships and actually getting out of bed to go to that gym. This behavior shows self-discipline. How I would LOVE to eat as much as I wanted!!

The other thing that I think bothers some Americans is when our tax money goes to pay for medical care for obese people to get things like gastric bypasses and such. It doesn't seem fair to me that someone who has showed such self-discipline (as I mentioned above) should be responsible for paying for people who don't.

The exception are the (very) few obese people who truly have health issues that keep them heavy...thyroid, etc.

Because if there's one thing American's LOVE to do, it's point out flaws and pass judgement.

Which is ridiculous, becase a large majority of Americans are overweight themselves. :P

Because there's something vaguely obscene, living in a world where so many go hungry, that one the greatest healthcare crises in the US is obesity.

Sure, some can't help it, but others can, and don't.

We like to obsess over the ridiculously unimportant issues of others rather then deal with our own problems.

I don't think hate is the right word.

There is concern because people are killing themselves with "treats". Obesity caused diseases are running rampant in the US.

Because humans have a tendency to hate what they do not understand.

BTW, you're not even close to being obese.
