Ok, as a young transsexual woman I might have a few tips.
Pick clothing that helps give the appearance of a more feminine figure. ex: Most genetic males have broader shoulders and narrow hips. Fitted tops with baggy capris give the illusion of a wider lower body and a narrower chest for a more hourglass figure.
Now for undergarments. As for a bra, the most important thing to remember is to pick a cups size that is in proportion to your son's chest. As for panties, I find that a tight-fitting pair of bikini cut cotton panties do a decent job of hiding what's down there. I've also heard that control top hose also work if he's going to be wearing a dress. Look up "tucking" in yahoo for info on how to hide the buldge. This link has some decent info on making cheap home-made breast forms to fill the cups of the bra with: http://www.eskimo.com/~bloo/bformfaq/
What to do about the facial hair will depend on how bad your son's beardline is. If it grows in thick and fast, then good luck using lots of concealer and foundation. They also do make beard concealer if you're will ing to fork the cash for it. If it doesn't grow in very fast or thick to where he only has to shave every couple of days, have him put himself on a scedule so that he can shave the morning of the event so that he doesn't have to worry about facial hair. I've got a trans friend that can completely conceal her beard line with concealer and foundation because it grows in slow enough, and she isn't even taking hormones yet.
For makeup there's really two choices. I don't know the circumstances of the event so I'll mention both. If the point is to go total drag queen you can put him in heels and a dress and go crazy with the makeup. If the point is to actually make him look like a her and not scream "drag queen" then don't go overboard with the rouge, eyeshadow, etc. Just do what you'd do if you were doing a young woman's makeup for a beauty pageant, except that you'll need a little extra concealer and foundation to cover the facial hair of course.
Body hair is also another issue. If your son has a lot of dark, course hairs they should be covered with clothing at all times or removed.
The hair style will depend on how long your child's hair is. There are some fairly gender-neutral cuts that can be styled femininely.
Another tip is to not go overboard, unless you want him to look like a drag queen, but to also add extra things like jewelry and nail polish. Since when was the last time you saw a guy in pink nail polish when it wasn't a joke, bet, or punishment?
Good luck!

I hope you son is as eager as you seem to be. Please check all this out with him as it could get embarrassing.
First of all, don't expect him to be sexy, and try to keep things in good taste.
You will have to start by establishing a good body form. He will need a girdle to give him a waist and hide his male parts. He won't have the right hips but this is most easily corrected by using a petticoat. If you use a long-line bra then his boobs won't move around much. Use rolled up gym socks to pad the bra for the right shape.
Okay, now the next most important part is the dress. It should dazzle. A long full-skirted formal (remember the petticoat) will create a feminine illusion. It should be something like a prom or bridesmaid dress. If he is too muscular then use a shawl over the shoulders, otherwise show his shoulders. Next the wig - the wig is very, very important. It will hide much of his maleness. Use a long, straight haired wig with bangs. Place a ribbon or bow in his hair. About shoes,, well everyone thinks of high heels, but they can be more bother than they're worth. It's not natural for a man to walk that way. So, if you want high heels he will need several days to practice walking in them.. Otherwise, just get by with sandals.. the long skirt will help to hide alot.
Things that are not so important are make-up and jewelry. Limit the make-up to lip-stick. It just gets to be too much trouble otherwise. Jewelry won't make too much of a change in appearance unless he has pierced ears. Use jewelry sparingly.
That still won't make him a winner. He will need some practice in his outfit. About 50% of the show is attitude. How does he carry himself? Does he have some smart retorts to questions, (example: when someone says, "that's a very pretty outfit", then answer with, "oh, I bet you say that to all the guys". Make it fun, prepare some funny stuff, and then he will win.

i hope he should dress as a descent but charming girl.dont make him a drag queen. Select a light coloured longer dress for him, you definitely need a fitting bra for your one. My son is dressing as cleopatra next month so i have tried a bra with him filled with bra cups available in the shops.he should wear high heels, that gives a lot of girly look to him. always use a wig and style it properly, put a top-on hairstyle. Another need is a pair of longer dangling errings and a shorter neckless. Meroon lipstick and nail polish and mascara would give the real girl look. Also make sure that you shave him properly (both arms and legs and face)

You might one to dress him as a french maid like I did in this picture. I bought the outfit on ebay for 35 dollars. It came with a petticoat and white apron. I am also wearing shear to waist pantyhose with black panties and high heels. I have on bra. If you go with this outfit, a short black wig looks nice too. Also a little makeup, but not too much. Put a bow in in his hair. Make him pratice walking in heels too. Do his nails in bright pink and teach him to always sit ladylike in a short dress or skirt.

here is what i would do, if you need to buy a dress go to target; for jewelry, go to limogesjewelry.com; makeup go to Target; for hair, use a wig; and as you put it, suitable undergarments, just use a bra, oh yeah use TONS and TONS of makeup, and sorry cant help with shoes.
