It's not like you are going to be getting this all done at once. After your first sitting you will have a better idea of what to expect and will realize that it really isn't a big deal.
besides, pain is inevitable. suffering is optional.

Being someone that has experienced having tattoo's myself, I would like to inform you that most tattoos are simple based on mind over matter. If you are truely wanting to have the sleeve done, keep in mind that pain is a state of the mind. Relax and think about something else. If you need to, get it done in a couple of sessions a few weeks apart for there is nothing wrong with that since a sleeve is considered a large piece of art work. It is either that or just don't get it if you are so worried about the pain. You could even take an opinion poll of which artist may have the lightest hand since some artist think that the pain is part of the work. Hope that this helps.

First you must remember a tattoo is a lifetime is it worth the pain. Does this have deep meaning to your life? If not think about it and give it time like all fads you may change your mind and laser surgery is more expensive than the tattoo.
But if your mind is set make sure they are reputable, they can do it in a few settings, and above all clean for disease free. sorry no anesthetics and you can't drink alcohol because it thins the blood and will prevent the ink from staying correctly or may even cause the artist to have to quit. It's a Big decision don't treat it lightly. I have 3 I know. :-)

I know they have some ointment that actslike a topic anasthetic, like it nums your skin a little, but its not really going to make it a whoole lot better! This is what I do before I get my Tatoos, I usually am in a relaxed state of mind, when I get there I make sure I ate something prior and then I just relax you know breath, talk to the tattoo artist but everything in a calm manner. Tattoos are really endurable, I had my rib cage tattooed and my back several times and even my stomach and I survived it all! They say Girls can handle pain in general better then boys, thats because we have to have babies....
Whatever yu do do not drink alcohol or take pain killers, it might cause you to bleed more then if you were sober, at least that is what I was told by my artist!

Mate I've got to tattoo's they hurt like bee-stings. But the Japanese style can be worse, I endured three hours of tattooing on my arm. It is all mind over matter, if you can concentrate on something else for that time you are being tattooed you we'll be fine.

Pain is a psychological thing, if you don't think about it and distract your mind by thinking of something else, it doesn't hurt as much. It's what I did when I went into labor, and yes it's very painful but you keep telling yourself tomorrow it will all be over. It's just a moment of pain that will soon be gone. If ya know what I mean. Good luck!!

I wouldn't do it all in one sitting first off. And if you don't like the pain involved.....
You could ask your doctor for something for minor pain. Are you of legal drinking age? Does the tattoo artist know you? If he knows you and you sign papers first then have a few drinks, that might help.

get drunk as a skunk before u get it, have someone drive u there and drop u off. i've watched tattoo shows on tv and they don't give people an anesthetic. if it's ur first one, make it a little one and remember that you will have it for life.
