I understand snobbism can help one in professional life.....but is it that useful in personal life?

Snobbery is a guise somebody puts up to cover up his inadequacies. A man, brave enough to admit his limitations and be his natural self is lot more lovable. The latter will succeed in life more than the former.

Sadly, I think so. Have you noticed how many terms we have to describe that sort of system?

elitism
Social Darwinism ("Survival of the fittest")
Dog eat dog
ratrace
pecking order
king of the mountain

and that's just off the top of my head.

altruism and humility are the pretty much the only two words that can describe an opposing system.

I think as human beings we have an innate respect for order and we realize that within that structure, the power tends to float to the top. That's where we naturally want to be, even if it means putting others down.
I also believe that many times we don't WANT to put others down, but by not acting on the urge to do that, we jeopardize our chances of climbing whatever social ladders we're aspiring tto escalate, as well as risk the chances of being percieved as "weak". This attitude is especially ingrained in men, and for the most part, society rewards that. That's why the system keeps going the way it does...

w0w jermaine! That was deep... I almost dont want to answer after reading your response.

but here goes... I have always felt that it makes one look inferior if they have to resort to being a snob. Professionally for example.. I prefer to look good in the eyes of my superiors based on my own merits. Not putting others down to make myself look good.

A snob who really happens to excel at what they do... would be so much more impressive if he wasnt a snob. A snob who is inept.. looks an even bigger fool for acting like a snob when he performs at a inferior level.

...being that I snub and am snubbed...I tend to think that snobbishnish is somewhat the order. However, to be useful it should not be taken to extreme levels. I mean there needs to be a balance with humility, compassion, and c' la vie.
To me snobbism is adherence to social order.

In my opinion, being a snob is not useful in any way...We are all created equal, meaning no one is better than anyone else. Being a snob just makes you look bad. Always have empathy for your fellow human being...work hard... and never ask someone to do something that you wouldn't do yourself! That's what will make you a great boss and help you to succeed!

Not when it comes to dating and love. One might as well consider themselves forever single if they want to be snobs with people they love.
