No way! One country being able to overrule all the others is definitely undemocratic. Also the way vetos are or are not used seems to depend on pressure from the biggest countries - for example Germany not using their veto against one of the Iraq motions because of pressure from America, saying they would withdraw their troops from German bases, thus hugely damaging the German economy, which seems to amount to little more than bullying. Not the way I think such an important force should operate.

The short answer is no. For the UN to work it should work the same way as an election, majority rules and to be a part of THE "UNITED" Nations, you should have to be required to abide by the majority. Veto power means the name should be changed to UN(except for...) or the un-united nations. The way it works now is a farce. If you really think about it, it is nearly impossible to get everyone to agree on anything, let alone all nations agreeing on something. Never happen..

Any of the 15 members of the UN Security Council has the power of veto. There are five permanent members, and the other countries take it in turns to occupy the other 10 places, so any member country has the power of veto at one time or another.

question is too good USA or any other major power can allowed to veto un security council decision but first of all all big power must understand the decisions perhaps it is in fabour of major power country and its a depend upon the advisers of the president as they are too brainful or not and how they deal and how understand and if security council decisions is useless than major power be allowed to veto immediately but first of all listen the matters to be very carefully and if u tell me the matter i immediately tell veto is important or not perhaps decision can go in favour of power ful country than so its dependant on adviser how they are brain ful and capable

The US is on the Security Council so it does have the power to veto decisions as do Russia, France, Great Britain, etc.

veto is definetly undemocratic
its like one country defeating all others in a single blow
its like one man blocking an entire humanity
peace will never prevail
it should be removed
but everyone with that power won't allow that
its a loophole in the UN charter

There should be NO veto in UNs only the word of the majority.
By the way, is not this democracy as the USA taught us? or the double sided, dictatorial Veto it practises.

Hah! The USA should pull out of the useless and money sucking UN. They are more harm than good....who have they protected? The whole world is at war....and what's the UN doing? NOTHING!
We shouldn't need to veto since we shouldn't be in it!
