It's a cultural thing. I'll try to simplify: In most of our societies, along history (and still in some places), women were not considered "worthy", in the sense that when a couple had kids, if they had a girl, they were not considered an asset, sometimes they didn't even count them, and all they could do with the girls was marry them well. So the girls were suppossed to be modest and all those attributes that the future husband could find appealing (pure, knowing some home economics and maybe some art). So they arranged their marriages and women mostly didn't get to decide who they would marry. Some guy just came (or his family), offered a big dowry to the father of the girl, and the marriage was arranged. Later on, when arranged marriages were not so usual anymore, women still didn't have many rights (remember, until not too long ago women couldn't vote), and therefore they still had to be very careful about their behavior. So in terms of relationships that meant that they still had to be modest and let the guys do the chasing. Nowadays, women have basically the same rights as men in most of the world, but this cultural thing has taken roots, so for a girl, that's just the way it is, the guy has to do the chasing. Many women really don't understand why, and many others don't care and do chase the guys, but mostly, they just wait to be courted.

I think because men turn everything into a contest. they run after the girl and its like a game.. girls they just don't care to run after boys because there are so many fish in the sea we don't need just that one

Well, this is tough. Naturally, women were created for men. it is a common practice for men to hunt for women because they (women) feel much more wanted ( It just make them feel good...!) Some other men wouldn't matter if they were hunted for by women but it is uncommon in the public eyes. men have to make a first move to show the interest in the woman.

You don't pay really close attention, do you? I think the women are just a little less obvious about it. Do you think we'd be wearing makeup and dressing up as much if we didn't think the people we want to impress weren't noticing?
