Sometimes I feel like I am the thread, and that I am just following the path that has been mapped out for me. Sometimes though, when you come to those junctions in life where you have to make a decision and follow the path you have chosen - then surely I must be the needle.
I guess I am the energy between both the needle and the thread, sometimes I sit firmly with the thread but sometimes I have to move up to the point of the needle and lead the way.
Fabulous question!

Forget the Needle - Find the Thread. thats what I would be .
It's tempting here to use the "Needle and Haystack" analogy, but as a new product development professional, it's not the needles that you're really after, but rather the threads looped through those needles. Those threads weave throughout and connect the data resulting in the "aha!s" that in turn give birth to really new product concepts.
Thread-A kind of thin yarn, thin fibers spun together, for textiles and sewing

What would I rather a be? the needle or the thread,
Is like asking what would you rather be barely alive or dead.
The needle is straight and proud, made of steel and topped with a hole,
But it is the thread which makes it worth while, achieving a person's goal.
The needle if working alone can pierce things, in effect aerate,
But without the thread to aid in the job it cannot ever create.
So what is one without the other? Neither does much good,
So needle or thread? thread or needle? I'd have to be both if I could.

After a long, hard ponder, I think I'd rather be the thread.
My reasons for this are as follows:
The needle is stiff, sharp and pointed, therefore it can't go where it wants, and it can hurt unintentionally.
The thread is flexible and soft, therefore it is free to go wherever it pleases, including through the needle, and it cannot hurt unintentionally.
I believe that the needle represents the male, and the thread represents the female. (Yes, I know this is a reversal of what you would at first think, but analyse it logically - the needle has the characteristics of the male, and vice versa)

The thread. The needle is the final decision, but the thread is influence, which I think is better than the final decision.
