If you have never been pregnant then you or may have an infertility issue. Also, it may not be you, it may be your partner who has the issue. BUT before jumping to that conclusion ....

Are you definatley timing intercourse correctly? There is only a short 'window' within each cycle when you can conceive. If you are not timing intercourse right, then you could simply be missing the right time each cycle. The life of an egg is only 24 hours at most, and while it is possible for sperm to live in your body for several days it really only last 2 or 3 at the most.

You ovulate once each cycle, when that happens depends on not only the length of each cycle and a few other factors - it won't nessicarily be exactly in the middle of your cycle.

To concieve you need to pinpoint when you ovulate and 'get to it' plenty in the days leading up to that day, as well as on that day, and the day after just to be sure.

The only way to pinpoint ovulation accurately is to chart your waking tempurature every day. You have a small but measurable rise in temperature at the time of ovulation. If you are very serious about becoming pregnant then this is your best bet and there are a number of websites that will help you keep track of these tempurates http://www.fertilityfreind.com is the most common. This site also has a wealth of info to help you conceive.

If you don't want to go that hassle, you could try using Ovuation Predictor Kits (OPK). They are less accurate but they will become positive 48-24 hours before ovulation, letting you know it is time to get busy with the baby making.

If you don't want to go to the hassle of charting your temp everyday, or the expense of OPK then you could try and do a bit of math regarding your cycle and make a good effort to have intercourse during what is likely to be the best time.

It is a myth that you ovulate a certain amount of time after your last period. It is infact ovulation which determines when your next period comes. The time between ovulation and your next period is called the Luteal Phase.

A cycle is counted by starting at the day your period starts to the day before your next period starts - so if your period started on July 1 and your next period started on July 29 then you had a 28 day cycle). Ideally we would all have 28 day cycles and would ovulate on the 14th day of that cycle. But every women is different and some have shorter cycles and some longer, and some ovulate earlier or later.

On average women do ovulate 14 days prior to their period arriving - and therefore thier Luteal Phase is 14 days. But it can be as long as 18 days prior and as little as 12. This is why it is easy to miss ovulation.

If you have regular cycles, then at the begining of each cycle determine when your next period will be, count 20 days prior to that day and then 10 days prior. Note those dates, the days between those dates are the ones you should have intercourse - every day if you can - and don't leave more than two days between intercourse.

So using the above equation, an exmaple would be:

- You have a 30 day cycle.

- You start your period on July 1st, and therefore your next period will arrive on July 31st

- 20 days prior to tthat is July 11th, 10 days prior to that is July 21st

- You should have intercourse daily or every other day from July 11th to July 21st

If you have been timing intercourse correctly in the past 3 years, then you definatley need to go see your dr. and then a fertility specialist. There are a number of reasons why you may be finding it difficult to conceive that they will be able to pinpoint and hopefully resolve for you.

Good luck!
