It does heighten the senses but they learn very well at that age. As long as you are careful about what your baby is watching it should not cause damage. Like no HBO, or MTV or anything violent, which I am sure you already know. They are at the stage where the world is their playground and they soak in information by osmosis. There have been studies conducted showing that letting a baby or a young child watch T.V. could have adverse effects on the child but their have been studies going the other way. Use your owe judgment in what you do. Good Luck to you.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no TV before 2 years old. Having said that, my son watches PBS and educational DVDs like Baby Einstein and loves them, but also really likes anything with constant movement (the crawl at the bottom of the screen with news or sports keeps his attention while I'm feeding him). I turn the TV off while he's eating, but I don't worry about exposing him to TV other times.

He's not "watching TV" at this age. He's watching the pretty lights. At only 2 months, odds are good that he can't see far enough to focus on the TV. If you were to sit beside a table lamp, he'd probably be staring at it instead. Some babies are fascinated by lights. My son stared at the table lamp that was beside the infant swing a lot. My hubby used to joke that is he could invent a light up nursing bra, my son would be in heaven because he'd have his two favorite things all at once! LOL!

I would be cautious about overstimulating the baby with TV. If the TV viewings are coinciding with feeding time, I don't think there's too much of a risk. It is helpful to the baby to hear human voices and language, and to get visual stimulation from its environment, but actual stimulation is best. Also, I would give careful thought to what's actually on the television. Programs with screaming, yelling and violence are probably best avoided. it couldn't hurt to have children's programming on, especially since those programs tend to be done with a tone of voice that is most soothing to young children.

Not a bad idea to keep the tv off. Maybe turn the radio on some classical music. Thats what we did. (Our baby is 6 months now) Sometimes we let her watch some Barney or baby genious stuff and Mom and I watch history channel all the time and often baby will watch that too.

At 3 a million/2 months previous, i do not imagine you're going to do any damage on your infant by allowing them to make certain the television. We had the television on extremely frequently even as our first toddler replaced right into somewhat one, and he loved the colors and sounds even as he performed on the floor. he's now 3 a million/2 years previous, and actually energetic. he will very infrequently favor to sit and watch television, because it interferes with him operating round taking area in hockey/baseball/basketball/automobiles... i imagine he's gotten used to having the television on at abode, so it is not any longer a huge deal to him anymore. on the different hand, i understand those who very nearly under no circumstances have the television on, and their toddler is an total television addict. once you've the television on, the youngster will stop each and every thing and plop in the front of it to the point that turning it off sparks the worlds greatest tantrums. That being reported, i also imagine the numerous determining ingredient for a toddler's television habit are the figure's television habit. in case you prepare your toddler an energetic existence form, then your toddler is a lot extra in all probability to augment an energetic existence form. a similar is going for television watching. As mom and father, our pastime is to be helpful functionality fashions, and on account that television is area of daily existence for most folk, coaching your toddler moderation in television viewing is an significant area of our jobs.

someone already posted what the aap says- no tv until 2 according to them. i personally don't let my son watch tv. it over stimulates them and there have been studies that indicate it could lead to add. why let your child watch tv when there are so many wonderful things you can do together (walks, music, dancing, singing, tummy time....) Once my son is older I dont have a problem with watching a show here and there throughout the day but I find it silly to let babies watch it.

I do not think that should affect him/her. When my baby was about your two years old she was in front of the TV all the time. She is thirty years old now and very successful. Influence on the TV show depends on what you show her to watch. An educational one is excellent for their developmental growth.
