You'll find Elite 2 and 3 here
http://www.eliteclub.co.uk/
Check out the mirror sites for Elite.
Enjoy!
In order to get it to run you may need a program like "DOSBox" to get it to work.
http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/
I had it running in 98 and it should work in XP.

Aha! I can answer this! EVE online. Its awsome. I was a HUGE elite fan and this is like Elite but next gen. Its a MMORPG, so there is a monthly fee but you are playing with thousands of other people and the depth of the game is staggering. The gameplay can be a little daunting, but there are some very good tutorials in-game. The graphics are amazing and have won many awards. You can get a free 14-day trail and even download the software for free, so its win-win. But it will take a good couple of hours to download.

Don't know about the original Elite, but there are several sites on the web where you can download the sequel Frontier: Elite 2. This originally came out in about 1992. It's much the same game with enhanced graphics. Try seraching it.

What an awesome game that was. Good old vector graphics eh.
Anarchies, confederates and democracies.
Blowing up freighters and collecting all the goodies in the cargo scoop. Dogfighting with the police near the docking stations.
I miss that game.
