A rainbow, As you know has seven colours, Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red. It caused due to the dispersion of light through a transparent medium. A light wave consists all these wavelengths ( VIBGYOR).
When the sun's rays pass through infinite water droplets, which act as the transparent medium, forms the rainbow.

Rainbows are conical in shape. The point of the cone is centered on your eye. You will see a rainbow when it's raining in the opposite direction from the sun. The center of the apparent "arc" that you see will always be the shadow of your head.
