It is symbolic. Rose is meant to be the flower of love. It is romantic. I would rather a big bunch of happy yellow tulips though.... Roses have become wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too commercial for my liking

roses are beautiful, short lived after cutting, not that easy to grow compared to most flowers. and most of them smell really good.
it is symbolic; part of that symbolism is based on romantic poetry and the symbolism of the rose in England
