I think that Orson Scott Card's books on the Ender series have been covered well. I've read all eight books plus the "First Meetings" stories (I have a special edition that I got at Endercon 2002, before "Teacher's Pet" was written.) There's a new story on Bonzo Madrid (Ender's nemesis at Battle School) available through Mr. Card official website of http://www.hatrack.com/. He's been working on and off on a screenplay for an Ender's Game movie, which I hope will be made someday.

Wikipedia has information on a new book that's in the planning stages, Shadows in Flight, which is designed to link the original tetralogy with the Shadow series, along with a novel set between Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead.

Hope that helps.

Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets, Shadow of the Giant.

You may be interested in reading First Meetings which happens in the "Ender universe" but it is not anywhere near as good as the rest of the books.

Ender's Shadow, Shadow of the Hegemon, Shadow Puppets, Shadow of the Giant, and he's supposed to be writing the next one right now...

Think I recall Shadow saying if was the conclusion on the cover but sometimes authors change their minds and add to a series.
You might like the Homecoming series or the Alvin Maker series by the same author although the latter is set in American pioneer days. He's written lots of other books.

There is a sub-genre of military SF is that is what grabs you. Try reading David Weber'[s Honor Harrington series or Jerry Pournelle's books.
