I have reinstalled my internet program recently and find that when I click to close it, it won't shut off. I have to go to the task panel and it says it isn't responding so I shut if off and the interent closes. But then when I go to shut the computer down, the error message saying the DDE Server is not responding (or something like that) and I click to shut it down and it reapears repeatedly. I have to physically shut it down. What should I do? Thanks.

It sounds like your XP is having problems unloading DLL files from memory (DLL files are Dynamic Link Libraries) or you are having service hangs. to eliminate any third party software problems, go to "start", then click "run", in the dialog box type in "msconfig" then hit the "ok" button. Go to the "startup" tab and uncheck mark any items there that do not point to either an antivirus program or a system service (look under the command listing for the directory the item is in to determine this), once doing that re-boot and see if that helps, if it does, you have a software title that is having problems shutting down, try reinstalling it.

This is a fairly common thing. Check the Microsoft suggestion below.
