I am an adult woman
that chats with adults
all over the world, and
I still run into this:
o snks ur so fin
wud u lik 2 b wit me?
wat? no...
den ur jus a biotch
wat neds 2 git ur hed
stuk up ur a$$
Cyber Abbreviations
make me absolutely nuts.
and make the person writing
them appear SO stupid,
that it's sad, really. I just
don't get it. It takes longer
to write it wrong, than it does
to write it right, because your
brain doesn't allow you to spell
it wrong intentionally.
In exception, there are three
that I use, one often, and
the other two occasionally.
I use LOL, because it shows
my appreciation of something
funny, and yes I am laughing
out loud when I type that!
If the cat has just knocked
the lamp off the table, or
I have a serious case of
the squirts, I will
hurriedly type BRB.
But my favorite, is WTF?
It just says so much
with those three tiny
little letters...I love it...LOL!

I use BRB more often than anything else. gosh, it sounds like I get interrupted a lot, doesn't it?
I love all the little smilies. They are not abbreviations, but I don't use them much, so that's all I've got.
I find myself typing "grrr" when I'm frustrated and "mmmm" when I'm picturing something nice. Those aren't necessarily chatting abbreviations, but not something you'd more than likely write in a letter or use in regular conversation, so they may count.

Yikes, I'm seeing red now...I hate web-isms, although every now and then, I'll find myself using "btw".
Btw, I particularly detest the use of "lol" on so many levels that I better stop typing before I go ballistic.

I'm with errant.
Never use them, other than just common sense short cuts you use in normal writing: w/o (without) etc (etcetera)
I think lol is overused by the way.
