I think think people just try to help others with what they know! Some already had the same problems and knew how to fix it..
It doesn't mean that all the answers here are good and solve things in general... If it worked for the one who asked the question it's ok!
It really is up to the user that posted the question to select the best answer! If he or she is not gaming for profit, the answer which that user consider as best will be selected!!!

I've actually found quite-a-few useful & interesting questions on this Site! Otherwise, I wouldn't still be here!
If You only answer questions from the Home Page...it may take much longer to find Questions of Interest...It's better to choose a Category that you're interested in...Occasionally hitting your Refresh button, will update you on any new ones that have been posted, while you're answering another.
( But, I sense from your question...that you feel many are not worth answering...And, I totally agree, many aren't!...I can't stand some of the repeated dumb questions, such as " How do you like my avatar?"...Sometimes, I just sign-off in disgust...But, I usually spend some time here...There's nothing on TV, except Info-mercials when you work until 2:30 am! lol )

Yahoo Answers solve many questions in the sense that many people have gained a lot from it. There was one question I answered that really helped the person on how to go about her problem. Through it many people of high intellectual gives out what they have in order that you might get what you want and people share their opinion to help others.

Yes i think allot of people get answers to there questions ,,even if its not the one they were hoping for , or if a person asks an intelligent question about a certain subject that they really need help with ,,or are just curious about something ,No matter what its a fun way to spend a few minutes just reading about whats on every ones mind ,,,

it's basically opinion based.. helps to get the points of view of different culture
i like it more because it's like a huge discussion with a variety of people that rarely come together
