We constantly warn our children about the dangers of accidentally "having someone's eye out" as the result of certain types of play. But has it ever happened?

I know you're not going to believe me 'cos I'm always being silly, but my dad lost an eye when he was a kid. A garden cane I believe. He's had a glass eye for about 55 years now. It fell out in the swimming pool once, when I was a kid. And I once found a little tin box in the loft that had his old ones in (obviously he has to get a new one every now and again as the muscles around the eye change). That was cool.

I nearly did... If I were not wearing safety glasses... they would be calling me OFF-CENTER CYCLOPS... right now!

I was working in a dark area... and there was very thin medal rod stick up... Because it was dark... My flash light was on the punch down block... as I moved my head to get closer I heard this very loud CLICK... and the left side of my head stopped moving...

As I got into the lighted area... I had a deep DOT in the center of my safety glasses. Had I not been wearing them... I'm quite sure, I would have POKED MY EYES OUT.

Sight is a handy survival tool... (not being trite here)... we warn our kids to be careful with their eyes... because, just like everything good they have... it's taken for granted.

The wife of a friend had an eye poked out when she was a kid. It was from a lawn game that has rings and large darts (12 inches or more) where you throw them high to get them inside the rings.

Yes! When I got my first full time job the guy who trained me had a glass eye. In time, I learned that as a boy he lost his eye while he and a friend were throwing darts. It happens!

a girl at work son actually did this: playing with a toy bow and arrow, shot the arrow toward a bike, arrow ricochet and hit him in the eye. she took him to the doc. with the arrow in his eye, because she didn't know if she should pull it out or not. child had to have at least 2 different surgeries. don't know what ever happened, if he got better or not because they move out of town.

I have seen many a video of that happen, it looks disgusting! I have never had it happen nor seen it in person, I don't think it is very common but it can, and has, happened to people. KEEP WARNING THEM!!
