Ancient Greeks were the nation to set the basis of modern western civilization. How you explain that while they were such a wise nation, they were still tolerant towards homosexuality? (some even say they and practised it in large scale)

OMG...lol. The answers I just read are so silly. It is because they were a people of indulgence. That's all. Indulge yourself in whatever you fancy. They did not have bible thumpers to tell them it was wrong to love men as well.

you answer yourself in your question, "while they were such a wise nation"
They apparently understood that love exists in many forms, and they understood that happiness of the individual was to be attended to when it did not have effect on others.
Being gay doesn't hurt anyone except with social and cultural, judgement. If one were to live and let live, being gay hurts no one.
That is why they were an advanced and wise nation.
You forgot to mention the Romans... they were the same way. And they were in charge of the scripture until the fall of the empire. Seems a little hypocritical to me, a case of do as I say, not as I do.

I think that it was because they were wise that they were also tolerant. Wisdom and acceptance of diversity are often directly proportional. As to their practice of it...who knows the real story? Perhaps the situation was magnified out of proportion by invading homophobes seeking to justify their actions. The ancient Greeks did not have Christianity to tell them how to live their lives, like we have today. And make no mistake...leaders use Christianity to dictate how we are to live our lives, effectively using religion to maintain their control.

You assume homosexulaity is something that should not be tolerated.

It is tolerated in Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Thailand, Holland, France, Germany ....

So perhaps your notion of a "modern western nation" is somewhat flawed.

Boys and girls did not usually interact when they were small. Boys would be educated by men and would spend a lot of time with other men. In my Myth class we read this article that said that since little boys were more feminin looking older men would flirt with and have relationships with them but only if the boys agreed, but they did not consider it homosexuality.

The intolerance came about later, with Judeo-Christianity. Since the Jewish people are interested in preserving bloodlines, any sexual act that didn't was frowned upon. Christians took over that part of the bible without realizing it had nothing to do with them.

Religions often breed stupity or bigotry.

At that time it was believed that if you had sex with someone of the same sex, you were a virgin. So in their way they were saving themselves. Are you saving your self?
