I went from Depo Provera injection to Implanon implant. It is a match stick sized stick that sits just under the skin and releases hormones over a period of 5 years. It is put in under a local aneasthetic. It is a good idea to know that you feel well when taking the pill before using the inplant. It is very reliable form of birth control but does not protect against STI's. You are less likely to put on weight with the implant and the hormone level is constant, unlike the injection which has high's when it is injected and falls over the 12 week period, so you are less likely to suffer from symptoms such as PMT, breakthrough bleeding, sore breasts etc due to fluctuating hormones. You aren't at risk of infection, and therfore infertility, as you would be from the coil. Most coils are only suitable for women who have had children due to this risk, although there are a few exceptions.
The down sides are the uncomfortable nature of having it inserted. Also, you need to know that you won't want a baby for a long time as you have to have it removed under a local aneasthetic. The insertion site will leave a small scar and you or your partner will be able to feel the implant under the skin if you run your fingers over it. Hope this helps.

Depo is horrible and outdated, i dont see why they still put people on it. If you want something convenient without the side effects, try Mirena or the nuva ring. The mirena is the MOST effective birth control, as effective as having your tubes tied. It also has the lowest occurance of side effects, but is best if you have had at least one child. It also lasts 5 years, then u can get a new one. Simple office procedure. Your fertility also returns to normal immediatly when it is removed, and you can get it removed any time. The Nuva ring is your second best bet. You only have to use it once a month, low pregnancy risk and low side effects. Low hormones too. You dont even feel it, its better than the pill or depo or anything else. Ask your doctor about both. Stay away from depo. I know 6 girls who all got fat from it, and 5 of them have kids from it. One of my friends has a set of twins AND a set of triplets from when she was on depo. It belongs in the stone ages, we are far too advanced for that crap now. See your doc and find a soloution.

Hey ...

I was on Depo for three years until i had a six month period.. Mr Dr soon changed me onto Implanon which is the implant. Im on my second one now (had it changed in Jan) and i am finding that i experience spotting with no periods.. i can go four months with nothing then a day then nothing for 6 months then a very light 1 week period. I am a true fan of Implanon however i would rec commend that you explore all avenues and find out which will be suitable for your way of life...
