My lovely work colleague, Annie, who sits opposite me is in a pretty bad mood and says she can't snap out of it. What can I do that won't annoy her to cheer her up? I would just ignore her, but she likes talking too much.

Awww that is nice of you to bother about a colleague!! Annie is a lucky person. We need more people like yourself around the workplace.

We used to send each other funny emails with funny videos or pictures - they go down well. And it's safe, as it shouldn't annoy her. Or if you can, with it being a great Friday afternoon, you could ask if she wanted to go out for a nice lunch, and sit outside - I hope she won't be in too bad a mood to say 'no'. We used to go to a pretty trendy bar nearby for (an expensive) fish and chips - but it worked wonders. I don't know what they put in them, but it worked. It must just be good old comfort food!!

Or of course, go for the 'some-of-us-are-going-for-a-few-drink-after-work' line. I don't drink, but even I used to go out for the banter or the laugh, as everyone is looking forward to weekend, and there is a good vibe and energy going around, and it'll help to set her for the weekend too.

Or you could show her my picture!! Do you like it? Look at my fat little hand!! Funny isn'it? Ha, ha!! : ) Well, have a nice day yourself.

Sounds stupid but......

Cover your face with shaving cream (Obviously not your eyes, mouth and nose) and start talking to her.
When she asks about it just say you creamed off with shaving.
