The things you are seeing are called floaters - they are pieces of your vitreous floating in front of your retina. Floaters usually start becoming more noticeable in your 20's and there's nothing you can do about them. They can signify a problem if there is a certain change in the number of them (all of sudden you see many more than usual) or if you also see flashes of light or a curtain across your vision. These symptoms could signify a posterior vitreous detachment or a retinal detachment and you would need to be seen by an optometrist ASAP.
These are not the things experienced before migraines - those are called auras.
A primary care physician is not the person to go to for problems like these. They do not have a slit lamp to examine the anterior eye with or a binocular indirect ophthalmoscope (bio) to examine the posterior portion. They are great for many problems but optometrists are the primary care doctors for eyes. If the problem is beyond their scope they will refer you to the appropriate specialist.
People have mistaken mucus on the eye for floaters in the past but your description does not sound like you are confused.
When a blood vessel bursts in the retina (from hypertension (high blood pressure) or diabetes) it is called a hemorrhage, not floaters.
In short - they're common and are only worrisome if there is a significant change.

Floaters. Happens when tiny blood vessels rupture in the eye...can be caused by hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, or some other medical condition. A general physical, and follow-up with an opthalmologist is in order. However, IF laser surgery is suggested...get a 2nd, 3rd and even 4th opinion before making that decision

just some dust on your eye. Tears will clean and lead it out of eye through tear canals to nose.
