The following are all FREE. Please check the rogue list at the end of my list. 75% of online "repair" programs are Malware themselves. (Both free and Pay)
Only download DIRECTLY from the manfacturarer. Others can be "ALTERED" versions of the origional good software. There are MANY versions of "GOOD" Software on the net that are really "BAD" altered origionals.

I use all of the following Free software with Windows XP SP2 and Internet Explorer with MSN toolbar and the pop-up blocker turned on and have never had a single problem with my computer sense Microsoft came out with SP2. (knock on wood.) (And be sure to keep Windows and the following software Updated)

The best Anti-virus is: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition. (www.grisoft.com)

The Best Spyware defense is: SpyBot Search and Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html)<--English version

AND: AdAware SE (www.lavasoft.com)
AND Spyware Blaster (http://www.javacoolsoftware.info/kb/)
The best Firewall besides the one that comes with Windows is: Zone Alarm (http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/co... or just (www.zonelabs.com) and select the FREE version.

These are all FREE and are all that are required. There is no reason to pay for this kind of software, except to give a donation to the writers if you can.
ALL the above programs are recommended and should be run on a regular basis. With some the free versions they must be run manually.

The best way to avoid getting any Malware (virus, Trojan's, spyware, etc) is to practice safe computing. Microsoft and many others have countless articles on the subject of safe computing. (something I think should be taught in schools)

Listen, nothing is free. Repeat: NOTHING IS FREE. Every single free item that you download has some kind of catch. There is at least a worm lurching in there. That is how these places make their money. They don't provide FREE stuff, for lazy hippies, out of the goodness in their hearts. It is their business and how they make a living. If you want antispyware then you must pay for it somehow. I suggest cash rather than a "FREE" virus.

REMEMBER: Sometimes things that are free actually cost more than things paid for in cash.
Also, please drink responsibly.

Down load the Yahoo tool bar. It's totally free. Click on "More Yahoo" from the home page (at the top to your right) and then click the link for Antispyware.

There's ad-aware but with no active spyware protection just manual scanning. It's a great anti-spyware application

There's Microsoft anti-spyware too it's good, free and with active protection, however it lets all Microsoft's spyware protocols pass by unseen...
And NO Yahoo toolbar doesn't have a real anti-spyware utility it's a "fake" doesn't prevent anything, maybe just when you have your borwser open. That shows how illetrate some people are regarding internet security
