I just had my head changed. the oil is not leaking on the ground. I had all the gaskets changed. i had the spark plugs changed and wires. I lose power when I first drive the car. the rpms go down and I have to push the gas more for a few secs then its ok. but I am losing about 2 quarts of oil every few days and I am not going far at all. the oil is black and it was changed after the head was changed. its only been 3 weeks. I have just invested a fair amount of money in this and am at my wits end. I have only gone about 450 km since the head was done. (put it this way the car was running better before this big repair and the oil was going in my rad and the head was cracked. the car never over heated and it ran like a charm,) now I hate it. I know i have to go back to the mechanic but I wanted some advice before i go , I think the head is faulty. the oil is burning off some where. I saw one big puff of white smoke then no more. my engine in idle sounds like a disiel. not loud though.TY

the head that i put in is brand new. the car has never over heated.before or after the repair....... to svthech i hope your wrong. but i have a very funny feeling your right. darn it all. do u think the head is faulty? the first head that the mechanic put was faulty cause he could not start it at all then he found out the the valves were crooked so he got other ones. thats why i think its that. the engine was rebuilt by saturn a few years ago before i got it i am 3rd owner

If there is no leaks and you are loosing oil means it's getting burned inside the engine. Usually it's because oil scrapping piston rings and valve seals are bad. But instead of having the engine rebuilt I'd suggest just get rid of this car and get something slightly newer and more reliable like Corolla or Civic.
I mean there is no sense throwing more money into this car. If the engine consumes this much oil it is badly worn inside.

If an engine has a lot of miles on it, cylinder head is re-worked or replaced, the engine may start burning oil, because of worn piston rings. If the head was changed because the engine ran hot, then the engine is finished.

If the head is on correctly, the next thought is you should have changed your piston rings while you were doing this work. I know your into your car for a lot of money right know, but you should price a complete engine overhaul and decide if it's worth doing or just selling this car and picking up another one.

your car sound like the carb. needs to be checked it could that the intake valves for the oil are also faulty and if you saw a puff of smoke the oil is probably burning or their could be an electrical disaster happening try not to drive the car

in many cases that's a seal... if it happens by way of your A/C once you circulate up hills or advance up or some thing like that that's this is merely the oil getting onto a warm muffler yet definite it is going to likely be fixed because of the fact it sucks to sniff that.. i had the comparable subject merely verify you seals.
