have sex the further to ovulation than you can get. Studies have shown that girl sperm swim slower and live longer, but boy sperm swim faster, but die sooner. So the idea is to have sex right before ovulation to ensure the boy swimmers get there first. and vice versa.

You could also go to a fertility specialist and they can wash and spin the sperm to ensure there are more of one kind of sperm than the other, then insert it into the uterus.

And you could also get IVF done. Which is a really expensive thing to do to ensure you get a girl

If you really want the best chance of having a girl (as opposed to the old wive's tales some questioners ask about), the only method with any scientific backing is the Shettles method (see sources section below).Since it is only 75-90% effective, you should only use it if you will be thrilled with a baby of either sex. For highest success rate, you should read the book, and not just the Web site (or a few paragraphs on Yahoo Answers).

The time of the month has NOTHING to do with the gender of the baby.

The only thing that determines the baby's gender is which sperm (XX or XY) is able to break through the woman's egg and achieve conception. That's IT.

To select the gender of the baby, you could do artificial insemination... and only implant female embryos. That's what people mean by "designer babies."

I guess technically you could abort an embryo that's male... but that wouldn't be right and I doubt any doctor would perform such a procedure.

yes, as others have told you already, the male sperm swim faster but the females live longer so having sex before you ovulate should ensure that all the boys have died off(sounds awful!) by the time the egg is in the right place. this worked for me twice and i'm now trying for our third, this time we want to be surprised so are just having sex all the time, lol! good luck and have fun making your baby!

Yes there are ways. There are books and stuff. I know that the mans sperm affects the sex of the baby, but you can make your -ahem- a more happy environment for a particular sex of sperm. Try looking it up. It involves things like the time of the month, and other things. I also found this website: http://www.genselect.com/?source=overture&OVRAW=baby%2C%20conception&OVKEY=baby%20conception&OVMTC=standard

I heard that the sperm to determine female is slower but live longer and the male is faster but die quicker so to try a couple of days before you ovulate and then stop, good luck !!!

yes, you try for a boy about 13-14 days after the first day of your period, and about 10 for a girl, or if you know when you ovilate about 5-4 day before for a girl, boy sperm are faster swimmers, but being boys are weaker, so can't wait around long for the egg, while girl sperm are slow swimmers, but being girls are stronger, so they can wait longer for the egg, it works ( 1 girl, 4 boys ),
