Have you seen the way Italians drive!?
If you were used to that, you'd clap everytime someone gets a shopping trolley round Tesco's without crippling someone.

I had a whip round for the pilot once, there was only about 12 of us on a plane which could hold over a hundred. We were flying from Heathrow to Chicago (1972)

It's not just Italians I assure you, come fly with me and witness immense gratitude in manner of extended seal impersonation, closely followed by repeated bows and smiles as I file past each of the flight crew on my wobbly way off the plane. And its all because I appreciate still being alive!! :-)

I don't think it's Italians only. It's happened on most planes I have travelled on, and I have never been on an Italian one...
I joined in, too.
