Whilst Israel does have a right to defend itself it also has a responsibility as a democracy and a civilised nation not to sink to the level of the terrorists. Unfortunatley, what they are doing now looks very much like revenge and systematic punishment of innocent people. I'm not talking about 'collateral' damage - a terrible term used to justify accidental civilian casualties, but deliberate targeting of civilians, How else can you explain attacks on fleeing refugees - people who Israel told to leave!
The big problem is that the very concept of a war on terror is deeply faulted. Apart from the grammatical error (the US really means a war on terrorism - terror is a concept that you can't attack) - there is the more important issue that you can't defeat terrorists by fighting them. This just plays to thier strengths -angering the supporting populations and creating more people willing to die for their cause. The only sensible way to defeat terrorism is to work on removing the underlying causes. This doesn't mean giving in to them, but it does mean thinking about why the may be so angry in the first place. In this instance (indeed for most of the middle east) it is the West's unconditional support for Israel. As a regional superpower with the US behind it Israel has become a bully who thinks it can get away with anything. A harsh rebuke (and withdrawal of funds) by the US would send a very powerful signal to all sides.

I can understand why the Palestine's Lebanese people hate the Jews they were given the state of Israel by the united nations it included the best portion of agricultural land in the area and the two most religiously significant cities in the world Jerusalem and Bethlehem,the poor Palestine's were kicked out of there own country and war was immediate ,and has been on and off ever since ,i cant see a solution to the problem. The American government are backing Israel by giving them satellite guided missiles and giving food aid to the Lebanese.

Ok i would just like to point out these facts;
Hezbollah were not firing rockest into Israel before the Isreali offensive began, cheack this on any newsite. Hamas were firing rockets into Isreali areas around the Gaza Strip, but these had killed only about a handfull of people over the years. The Hamas rockets are no threat to Isreal, but Isreal caused the Rockets hitting northern Isreal.
I would also like to say Isreal yes has the right to protect its citizens and recover its soldiers.No one would have a problem with this policy if they only targetted Hezbollah, and did not kill civilians in the current numbers.

As usual they go about things in an arrogant way. When you know that you will kill 100 civilians in the hope that you will get one Hizbollah fighter you do not have the moral high ground and your actions are cowardly to say the least. If Israel really wants the peace it says it wants it needs to start giving back territory it took. What they are toooooo stupid to understand isa that for every man , woman or child they kill they create 100 more "terrorists" as they call these people.

I think Israel are right to defend themselves against the many rockets fired into Israel, and I hope they succeed id defeating Hizbollah. however the use of force has been indiscriminate and targeted very badly. They (along with the US and UK) are creating the conditions in which terrorism can breed and spread..
To use a fishkeeping analogy, if you wanted to prevent guppies from breeding and being over run with baby guppy fry, then you would not put lots of male and female guppies together in the same tank. If you create the perfect environment for something to breed, then do not be surprised when it does.
The US, UK and Isreal are deliberately doing all they can to foment terrorism in the middle east, because they then use that threat of terrorism to take away our liberties and change the balance of power between the people and the state, so that they become our masters and we, their servants. Answerable to them in the form of ID cards, spy in the sky traffic monitoring, tax credits, compulsary DNA samples stored in the national DNA database, arrest and detention without charge or trial, indefinate house arrest, without charge or trial based on secret or non-existant evidence. etc etc. It's all about fascism and their wish (according to their actions) to create a fascist utopia for the military industrial elite.

They are wrong both morally and practically.On a practical level,for every shell that explodes,they create another 20 Hezbollah supporters.The acts of gross revenge they usually carry out on their foes cannot be avenged becaue their opponents don't have equal military might.However,due to human nature,there will of course be revenge that will be paid back in kind one day.It's just a debt that is building and building towards total catastrophe.Morally,they of course,like all other religous zealouts,believe that they are right in what they are doing.Through their tremendously powerful international propoganda machine thay have convinced the plebs of the world that their exercises in mass murder and land grabbing are a part of the war on terror.God help us all.

The conflict is a gross over-reaction to Israeli to a relatively minor provocation. Yes, Hezbollah were wrong to kidnap those soldiers, but that is no excuse for the carnage inflicted by Israel, who have crippled Lebanon, who have not the capacity to retaliate.

it is appalling to find a lot of people die for no apparent reason other than Racism, Hatred and mans inhumanity to man. the nation of Israel has the right to protect itself; and so those any nation that feels it sovereignty is been undermined. If you try to understand the arab mind (vis Islam), you will find that for Israel to protect itself, it has to go violent. hezbolla will sooner direct its bomb on muslims and arabs if it feels its hold on the people is threatened. check out what is hapening in Iraq.
