At the moment I'm very disturbed by the unnecessary suffering in Lebanon, so I immediately related this to that .
In such contexts ,we probably realise that we could find ourselves in the same position ,and it's in our interests to see a just society . Hitler ,for instance was able to rise to power , partly because almost no-one in Germany was willing to stand up against injustice to a minority that many considered alien to themselves.

On the other hand ,if you're referring to people feeling unhappy etc, then i feel this refers back to a deep unconscious sense that we're all essentially the same being. And it seems to me that our essence is both our ground for action and the (usually unrecognised) goal of it . In this sense helping others to find that 'happiness' or 'truth' increases the apparent presence of our own 'real' self.
It's as if we were members of a mutual help organisation ,and by helping another person to enjoy the benefits of the group , we benefit from their membership , but our main value is the good of the whole organisation -our true nature .

However , I don't think that people 'should' worry for it's own sake. I think that calm consideration ,expression and action are the things that really count .

Sometimes worrying about the other people's problems may help solve our problems.

Because others give meaning and value to ourselves.
In contrary to popular belief in the west, true happiness does not lie within ourselves, but between the connections we have with others.

We need to know others to know ourselves. We can only know ourselves by knowing others. They are the mirror in which we judge ourselves and know ourselves.

Others are an extension of yourself.. we are a different branch on the same tree. Your happiness depends on that of others, or else it can't be true happiness, only delusion.

Compassion goes hand in hand with unhappiness, which in turn is the best motivation for us to do something about the unhappiness of others, in an effort to find peace again within ourselves.

When you listen to Dr, Phil too much, and learn that there is no truth, only perception, basically you will learn to defeat this very important natural system that is the root for civilization. You will learn that ignorance is bliss, and that the EASIEST way to ACHIEVE happiness, is by manipulating your perception, by believing in lies, by sticking your head in the sand, by convincing yourself things are okay when they are not, by reducing your compassion, conscience and remain uninformed, unaware, and maintain a low conciousness.. but FEELING happy is not the same as BEING happy (just like FEELING healthy is not the same as BEING healthy, for example in the early stages of cancer.. in which case you can only FEEL healthy, because of unawareness/ignorance.. same holds true for other forms of ignorance, indifference and philosophies that undermine conciousness, for quick and easy peace of mind.. ).

You should worry about other people's problems because indirectely they are your own.. and the only reason why you would not see that, is because you are ingnorant of your relation you have with this other person.. which doesn't mean that relation isn't really there.. we're all in the same boat. Your happiness depends very much on your environment.. if we put you in a different environment, your happiness and self image will eventually change..

You can not love yourself without loving others (and being loved). You can not help yourself without helping others, and you don't exist unless you are acknowledged by your environment that you exist. You only exist within the backdrop of your environment. Thus it is that environment that defines you.. that is your relaitonship with your environment.. it defines you.

All humanity is intertwined. Usually when you help the people around you, it makes everyone happier, things run smoother, and in the end, it benefits you. Also, as far as friends and family go, I would do anything for them...b/c it's nice to know that they'll be there for me if I ever needed it. That doesn't mean I help them out with their trouble for some kind of tab I'm keeping...it's nice to have that closeness...that unity--where you know you're not always in it alone.

It's easier to look at other peoples problems more objectively than your own.

Maybe life would be easier if we were all teamed up with another person, and that person made all our important descisions and vise versa. It would take away alot of stress.

It's part of our sub concious mind. Helping others is part of being a human. When we see people suffering "deep down inside" we know we should help them, even though we dont realize it and sometimes we deny it.

if you really think about it, most people don't really help people because of compassion, they help people because of a selfish thirst inside that urges us to help people and in turn make us feel good, proud, superior, better than everybody else. one might say we are just show'n off. that is why most of the time there is no selfless act of kindness. they don't really worry about other people problems, they worrry about their inabilty to help them
