Have you got a fairly deep base in your tank so it can dig burrows? Is it at least 75 degrees in it (they like it as warm as 90)? It can be quite normal for spiders to become inactive for long periods of time and they can safely go for months without eating. It will not eat for several weeks prior to a molt because they shed their esophagus and stomach at the same time.

Well, he could be going into a hibernation stage due to the shorter daylight periods. But more than likely, he could be getting ready to moult which can cause death it the tank is to damp or to dry. A few days before moulting starts, the spider stops eating.
Plus, they are not very active to begin with.
Or, since you say it's a male, depending on the age, it could just be dieing from old age. The males live for only about 6 months after maturity and very few survive the 7 to 10 year maturity period. Females on the other hand can live for about 25 years.
